Therapy Myth: "You Have to Be in Crisis to Go to Therapy"
This is one of the most common reasons people wait years longer than they need to. You don't need a crisis to justify starting therapy — you need a pattern you're ready to actually look at.
Most of my clients aren't in crisis when they start. They're capable people who've noticed something repeating: the same argument, the same freeze at the same moment, a version of themselves they don't quite recognize anymore. Nothing has to be falling apart for that to be worth examining.
Waiting for things to get bad enough often means waiting through years you didn't need to spend stuck. Therapy isn't only for emergencies — it's for anyone who's noticed something that keeps happening and wants to understand why, not just survive it.
If you've been telling yourself you'll start "when things get really bad," this is worth reconsidering. You're allowed to start now.
